In a context of significant changes, many companies want to achieve their decarbonization goals and accelerate their digitization. Combining high energy efficiency and real coverage performance inside buildings, NB-IoT meets these challenges.
This low-power network, dedicated to sending short messages, enhances the longevity and autonomy of objects, reducing their cost. The advantages of NB-IoT open up a world of possibilities in terms of use cases, specifically addressing Smart City requirements (water and waste management, lighting), Smart Building, energy efficiency management, and industrial asset tracking.
With both technical commitments differing from and complementary to LTE-M, NB-IoT is already being adopted worldwide, particularly in Asia. This IoT technology will be supported by 5G SA (Stand Alone).
Performance
With NB-IoT, interactions with your devices located in a difficult-to-reach environment, HQE buildings, indoor, or in a basement, are made easier
Bi-directionality
With bi-directionality, your device can both transmit and receive data messages, ensuring the proper receipt of messages and sending of commands
Longevity
Based on the 4G network and supported by 5G SA (Stand Alone), NB-IoT offers you the guarantee of sustainability for your solution and optimized quality of service
Energy autonomy
Your NB-IoT device can operate autonomously for over 10 years thanks to its advanced LPWAN features and streamlined design, allowing it to optimize its energy consumption
Reduced device cost
Thanks to the streamlined design of NB-IoT and the volume of modules already deployed, particularly in Asia, you can benefit from NB-IoT devices at very competitive costs

Deployment in France and internationally
Bouygues Telecom has deployed LTE-M and NB-IoT technologies and has had coverage of over 99% of the national population since late 2022.
In 2023, NB-IoT, a global 3GPP standard, is already adopted in 63 countries worldwide, particularly in the United States and Asia.
NB-IoT and LTE-M: complementary technologies
NB-IoT and LTE-M technologies are complementary. The choice mainly depends on the use case and business constraints.
For telemeasurement or Smart Metering requiring very low throughput and battery consumption, NB-IoT is the ideal solution. For a use case requiring higher throughput, such as a software update for the device, LTE-M is more suitable. Learn more about LTE-M.
For comparison, NB-IoT has a throughput of 0.25Mb/s, 2G has a throughput of 0.38Mb/s, while LTE-M has a theoretical throughput of up to 1Mb/s
